Housing Options Scotland helped my son ‘Steven’. I am his mum and main care giver.
Steven has had learning difficulties since birth and had a diagnosis of bi-polar 30 years ago. We worried about his future and wanted to secure him a home in his familiar environment with as much independence as possible. It was a difficult and emotional struggle to get information. Steven has successfully lived independently in a flat in an area he is familiar with for over 15 years. I know there is no way I would have been able to navigate my way through this minefield myself.
Over the years there have been ups and downs, covid was especially difficult as Steven’s main interest is sport, and there was none during that period. However, Steven has a support worker who is exactly that, a help for him when he struggles, and respite for my husband and I.
Steven has matured and is a happy caring person who would like the world to be less complicated and fairer. I want to make it clear that without Housing Options Scotland my husband, Steven and I would not have so many good years, with such peace of mind.
